When your head is full, typing can feel like one more chore. Tap "Talk instead" and just say it — the app writes it down for you. Here's how to switch the microphone on if your phone said no the first time.
Nothing you say is recorded or sent to us as audio. Your phone turns your speech into text on your device; only that text is sorted, and it isn't stored anywhere. If you'd rather not use the mic at all, typing works exactly as well — He hears both the same.
Open Settings, scroll down and tap Safari.
Tap Microphone, then choose Ask or Allow.
Come back here, tap Talk instead, and tap Allow when the little box appears.
If you added the app to your home screen, use Settings → scroll to the app's name → Microphone.
Tap the padlock (or the sliders icon) in the address bar.
Tap Permissions, then Microphone, and switch it on.
Reload the page and tap Talk instead.
Click the padlock at the left of the web address.
Set Microphone to Allow.
Reload the page.
A few honest possibilities: some browsers (notably Firefox, and older versions of Safari) don't support speech at all; a headset or car connection may be holding the mic; or another tab may already be using it. If none of that is it, just type — you lose nothing.
